With the number of overweight people increasing in US, there is also bigger increase in diseases like blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease and block. All these just increase the problems in our life and overall helps in shortening our life span.

Even exercising daily for thirty minutes can be really helpful.

Is your kid getting overweight?

overweightMany of parents even do not know whether their kids are actually overweight or not. Kids are overweight or not has some relation with kids physical activity and eating patterns. The lack of balance between diet and exercise could make your child look fatty and absurd and may keep them overweight and unhealthy until their adulthood.

The balanced diet with physical exercise helps the kids to get the nutrients they require and to keep the healthy weight. It also helps children steady more, build muscles and strong bones, get more energy, and avoid diseases caused by obesity such as type 2 diabetes or high blood pressure.

You have to play a big role in your child’s diet and overall health. And eat only what you want your kid to eat. If you eat healthy, your child will also eat healthy. If you want that your child to eat low-fat, low-sugar, or high-fiber food, you have to eat the same. However, you may have to try for more than ten times before your child accepts certain foods.

Check the school’s breakfast and lunch. Get involved in choosing the school menu, or include in your child’s lunch pack a variety of healthy foods. The media and your child’s friends may affect his or her food choices.

Higher BMI people have less chances of getting disease but higher chances of dying

According to a research report, Higher BMI (Body mass index) does not raise the risk of prostate cancer. But once this disease occurs, High BMI people have higher chancing of dying. "This is a large study that shows a convincing dose-response association between obesity and adult weight gain and death from prostate cancer," lead investigator Dr. Margaret E. Wright told Reuters Health (MSNBC.com).

As all of know BMI of 25 is considered to be normal, 30 being overweight and above it obese. People with BMI of 40 or greater have 33% lesser chances of prostate cancer as compared to a man having BMI less than 25. Conversely, the risk of dying of prostate cancer rose significantly with increasing BMI. This amounted to a 25 percent greater risk for men with a BMI between 25 and 29.9, a 46 percent increase for BMIs between 30 and 34.9, and more than double the risk if BMI was 35 or more.

There was also a significant association between weight gain in adulthood and prostate cancer mortality. "The growing prevalence of obesity in Western countries is alarming," Wright said, "and reducing the risk of prostate cancer death is only one among many health reasons to maintain a healthy weight through diet and exercise."

While dieting one has to take enough calories so that the burning of muscles can be avoided.

Every balanced diet includes exercise program. Physical activities help the body to purify and muscle building as well as burn the fats. Study finds Chinese restaurant food unhealthy

According to a recent study restaurant foodChinese restaurant food is full of sodium, saturated fat and calories . Even a plate of chicken is full of 40% more sodium and more than half the calories an average needs for an entire day. The battered, fried chicken dish with vegetables has 1,300 calories, 3,200 milligrams of sodium and 11 grams of saturated fat (From MSNBC.com).

Report state American restaurants need to cut back the calories and salt in the food. An average man needs 2000 calories per day and 2300 milligrams of salt everyday. "Chinese restaurants have so many options available that help customers make smart choices," Sheila Weiss, director of nutrition policy at the National Restaurant Association said. "You can always get steamed vegetables or vegetables in light sauces, as well as lean protein. I think the menus are very clear about the option available."

Italian and Mexican restaurant are the worse food for our health as these restaurant food is higher in saturated fat and which can increase the risk of heart disease. While Chinese restaurant food is bad for your waistline and blood pressure — sodium contributes to hypertension — it does offer vegetable-rich dishes and the kind of fat that’s not bad for the heart.

However — and this is a big however — the veggies aren’t off the hook. A plate of stir-fried greens has 900 calories and 2,200 milligrams of sodium. And eggplant in garlic sauce has 1,000 calories and 2,000 milligrams of sodium.

Even little physical activity for being slim kids

Just 15 minutes a day of kicking around a ball kicking ball slim kidsor swimming might be enough to keep children from becoming obese, British and U.S. researchers said on Monday. The study that was conducted on 5500 children found that the children who exercise more have lesser chances of becoming obese. The children who did fair exercise for 15 minutes have 50% less chancing of becoming obese as compared to the children who remain inactive for the whole day.

According to the report the higher intensity physical activity may be more important than total activity. We all know that diet plays an important part in fight against obesity. But many times we forget about physical activities that are as vital as any diet. Even small amount of physical activity can have big impact on your overall obesity.

It is clearly a matter of people eating more calories than they burn off, but experts cannot agree whether diet or exercise is more important -- and which kind of exercise might be best. Ness' team studied 5,500 children, with an average age of 12, who with their mothers have been taking part in a larger, long-term study of health.

The study found that the children who do not exercise at all have greater chances of obesity. "These associations suggest even a modest increase of 15 minutes moderate and vigorous physical activity might result in an important reduction in the prevalence of overweight and obesity," the researchers wrote.

Food labels as our best friends

Food labels and weight loss

Food labels can be our best friends in the fight against obesityread food labels. By watching at the food labels at a food item, we can judge whether a particular food item is useful to us or not. But in the long run, we must enjoy our food to be really successful in our weight loss campaign. So here are some things to watch out for on food labels:

  • Serving Amount
We have to be really accurate with our serving amount. Serving amount should be as per our requirement.

  • Amount of calories
The calories count can be really helpful if you are very serious about the amount of calories you want to consume on a particular day or at a particular meal time.

  • Fat numbers
There are several fat numbers on the label to help you differentiate what kind of fat the food contains.

  • Amount of Carbohydrates & Fiber
The amount of carbohydrate and fiber will help you decide if the food you are eating will “stick to your ribs,” reduce hunger, and help maintain a steady blood sugar level.

  • Protein
Protein is important for tissue repair and healing, especially for heavy exercises. Protein also satiates appetite and helps the brain realize you are not hungry so you don’t overeat.

  • Balanced minerals and vitamins
It contains the list of various vitamins and minerals in the food. It is recommended we should include as many fruit and vegetables items in our diet.

So we have really good information available on food labels. But the food labels has nothing to do with the taste of a particular food item. So many times we eat too much food just for the sake of taste. So we have to be very serious about the amount of food we take. The food labels can be really out best friend in determining what food item to eat and in how much quantity to eat.

Eat out and remain slim

Beating the bulge is best achieved not through crash diets, but normal diets. Keep eating the normal food in moderation and the body mechanism will take care of the rest.

COUNTING CALORIES ISN’T the best way to lose weight! More often than not people adopt the latest diet, hit weight-loss plateaus and end up frustrated. You would be surprised to know that eating normal diet is the best way to control weight. Experts agree that normal eating spurs an automatic control mechanism(www.merinews.com).

Weight loss is a tangible goal. There are numerous ways to achieve it. Most people tend to cut down drastically on their food and suffer hunger pangs, loss of stamina and frustration in the process. So, the approach needs to be realistic. And, what else could be more pragmatic than eating the usual stuff?

Imagine a weight-loss technique that preaches normal eating — like you did before you began bothering about your weight. Sounds great!

Take note. Binging is not a normal eating pattern. A normal diet pattern also calls against “yo-yo dieting”, alternate periods of feast and famine. Take a pre-emptive measure and mend your eating ways. You must eat according to your current daily intake. Anyone who has ever tried dieting understands the haunting feeling of deprivation. As a result, most of us cannot stick to such plans. So, try getting used to eating less gradually.

Serve yourself smaller portions. You would realize in some time that you need less to feel satiated. In short, just eyeball your portions!

Make sure that your diet is varied, adequate in all essential nutrients. It should also include adequate numbers of servings of fruits, vegetables and whole-grain products. Overweight people, who maintain a low-calorie diet with moderate fat intake, limit their fast food consumption and sustain high levels of physical activity, ultimately succeed in weight-loss maintenance. The trick is in eating a normal diet, the normal way.

Crash diets are no shortcuts to slimming. On the contrary, such a practice jeopardizes health. Continuously eating an unbalanced diet can result in weakness; interfere with normal function and cause damage to the body. A normal diet with right doses of physical activity is the best bet to lose weight on a permanent basis.

Everything in moderation is the credo. You should be able to eat what you like and when you like. It boils down to understanding what you are eating. You should be able to eat when you are hungry and continue eating until you are satisfied. You need not totally avoid the so-called “poisonous fat-filled stuff” and other “tasty”, “forbidden” or “pleasurable foods”. When you give yourself the power to choose what you eat and when you eat it, you will find a diet freedom that works.

Use a modicum of restraint in your food selection to ensure you get the right food, but there should be no need to miss out! In principle, a sensible diet made of generally recognized “good” food and an exercise regimen will keep most of you in reasonable shape.

Losing weight is a just a question of maintaining balance. You don’t have to skip diets. You don’t have to starve. You just have to do one thing and that is eating normal food. If you can stick to the normal regime, you have clicked the right button. But you have to sacrifice something — stop munching those wafers. Always!

Americans are still not eating their veggies

According to a recent survey, less than one-third of American adults eat the amount of vegetables and fruits recommended by the government eat more veggies. This is much more below the American Government goal of getting 75% of Americans to eat two servings of fruits and three of vegetables each day by 2010, said Dr. Larry Cohen of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (From MSNBC.com).

Specifically the survey showed that 27 percent of adults ate vegetables three times a day, and about 33 percent ate fruit twice a day. A serving size is a half-cup for most fruits and vegetables, one cup for leafy greens.

Younger adults, age 18 to 24, ate the fewest vegetables. Nearly four-fifths of that age category scraped the veggies to the side of their plates — if they had vegetables on the plate at all. Likewise, seniors also ate the most fruit, with nearly 46 percent eating two or more servings of fruit daily. People age 35 to 44 ate fruit the least, with fewer than 28 percent eating the recommended amount of fruit each day.

The federal agency said it doesn’t know why people aren’t eating more veggies or fruits. Cohen said future surveys will ask people what other foods they are eating. Susan Krause, a clinical dietitian at Hackensack University Medical Center in New Jersey, said people are eating more refined sugars or choosing protein instead of fruits and vegetables.

Not only are fruits and vegetables lower-calorie, they also have minerals and fiber that help guard against chronic diseases and cancer, the CDC says.

Females fat talking socially compulsory

How to prevent obesity in your child

The incidence of childhood obesity has more than doubled in the past two decades, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Yahoo! News).

Noting that healthy eating habits begin at home, the American Academy of Family Physicians offers these suggestions to prevent the problem:

  1. Don't force him to eat when he isn't hungry -- he shouldn't have to clean his plate if he's already full.

  2. Don't use food as a reward, or as a comfort when he's upset.

  3. Feed your child a healthy, balanced diet -- one that includes fast food no more than once a week.

  4. Limit your child's TV watching and encourage physical activity, like playing outside. Offer to play outside with your child.

  5. Encourage your child to get regular exercise, so that he continues to exercise into adulthood.

Parents not able to identify obesity

Government is launching a program to help parents identify the obesity signs in their kids obese child. Often parents do not admit that their children are overweight. The Department of Health has pledged to do more in the next year to support parents in encouraging healthy eating and physical activity (From BBC NEWS).

People have a poor perception of their own weight status and are even worse at spotting when their child is overweight or obese. Busy lifestyles, irregular working hours and fears that having a healthy lifestyle is too difficult to achieve also put people off healthy choices.

According to the MRC report, average time spent preparing meals has fallen from two hours to just 20 minutes over the past two decades. And safety concerns prevent children being allowed to walk to school or play outside.

Coffee a source of fiber

There is good news for dieters who love coffeesource of fiber. According to a new study coffee can be a good source of fiber for the dieters. But they should not stop eating fruits and vegetables which are also big source of fiber.

According to the study brewed coffee contains soluble fiber, the roughage found in oatmeal and apples that aids digestion, helps the body absorb vital nutrients and keeps a lid on cholesterol.

According to the American Dietetic Association (ADA), men should consume around 38 gram of fiber per day and women should consume around 25 gram of fiber everyday. But 50% of Americans consumes only 15 grams of fiber or even less than this.

So we all need to improve our intake of fiber which is very essential for our health. So we need to take more coffee and big amount of fruits and vegetables.

Spending too much of time with TV makes child overweight

According to a new study, the more time a three year old child spends in front of a TV, the more calories he consumes. Spending too much time in front of TV is associated with Junk food and lesser intake of healthy food such as fruits, vegetables, fibers and calcium.

Every hour spent in front of the TV makes children drink more sugar-sweetened beverages, and brings almost forty-seven extra calories per day, said Sonia Miller, lead author of the study. Although forty-six extra calories per day may seem unimportant, in time this can make a difference, according to Matthew Gillman, co--author of the study. The study proved that poor dietary habits are strongly related to increased TV or video watching.

Most of the children watched TV or video for almost two hours per day. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommend that children under two years old do not watch TV or video, while the two-years or older watch TV for no more than two hours per day.

Obese people are less likely to commit suicide

According to a study published in latimes.com, the obese people have lower risk of suicide. Scientists think it may be related to their higher production of insulin and other hormones that affect mood. Report says that bese men were 42% less likely to commit suicide than those at the lower end of the normal-weight range.

Lead author Kenneth J. Mukamal of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston said, this study was not applicable to women because of hormone differences related to gender. He also said, the stigma of obesity falls more heavily on women, causing anxiety and other adverse effects on mood. "Men can be jolly and fat,"

"The research was based on the Health Professionals Follow-Up Study, a survey of 45,000 men — dentists, veterinarians, optometrists and others — that began in 1986. The study examined the relationship between suicide and body mass index, a ratio of weight to height. For example, a man who is 6 feet tall and weighs 154 pounds has a body mass index, or BMI, of 21. Researchers looked at men with BMIs ranging from below 20, which is considered underweight, to those above 30, which is considered obese."

Cycling for weight loss and improving overall health

Get new friend in the form of exercise bike

Just few weeks back, I met one of my old friend’s who was also going through the fat loss process. In the last few months, he had been able to lose some big of pounds in a healthy and entertaining way. He had been enjoying his weight loss program.

The biggest plus point for his weight loss seems to me his passion for cyclingexercise bike. He spends some of his time riding his bike. That had helped him a lot. That seems to be really useful to me and I have decided that I am going to try it out. When I collected some information about cycling or exercise bike, I find that they are quite helpful in losing weight in an entertaining and funny way.

So I have purchased an exercise bike which I going to lose at least four times in the week. Cycling looks such an easy way to lose extra fat to me. But I and all of us need to be consistent with it. So I am going to devote some of my exercising time to cycling. I am really exciting about it as I really love it. I hope with weight loss cycling will help me to be more fit and fine.

To get some real results with this kind of exercise program we have to be full of enthusiasm. We need to make cycling a part of our life. And it will take some time to make cycling a part of our life. So we all have to start it slowly and then increase it with time. Even ten minutes of cycling in the beginning will be helpful.

With weight loss cycling will help in improving overall health. It will help in reducing the risk of heart disease and high blood pressure. When we do cycling we feel better physically and mentally. So my old friend has given me a new friend in the form of exercise bike. So it is good to get a new good friend from an old friend. And now I am going to enjoy my ride. And if you like you can also enjoy it.

Positive thoughts for losing

We cannot be successful in any of our deeds in case we are not optimized, motivated and inspired to do that. You can never win a race with negative thoughts in mind. Just remove the fear of failure from your mind. Just imagine you’re after weight loss picture. Imagine how you will feel after losing the extra pounds you are having.

And think after losing some weight, you will feel full of confidence and have more enjoy in life. With this you have more options in your dress purchasing. It seems really bad to be fat. We have to make this bad thing away from our life.

On many occasions, when we went to a store and try some jeans, we feel full of remorse and sadness that we are not able to fit in a jean in which we were able few months or years back. On some occasions, some of our friend, people around or relatives make some comments about our fat. We do not have to lose heart. We have to stay positive towards our weight loss.

I really feel bad on one occasion just few days back, when I went to a store to bought a jean for me. The salesman in a joking manner makes comment about my fat. And when I was about to try a large size shirt for me, He sad, you should not take this as your tummy will be too much visible in this size shirt. So take extra large size shirt. But we all need to take positives from all this kind of things and remain positive in our way to weight loss.
