Wholegrain cereals can help you lose weight as well as boost your eating of healthy nutrients, new study suggests.
Researchers followed 180 overweight adults for 6 months and compared 3 weight-loss strategies:
- Exercise only
- Exercise plus a reduced-calorie diet including 1 or 2 daily servings of wholegrain breakfast cereals
- Exercise plus a low-calorie diet with no wholegrain cereals
After 6 months, both diet groups dropped an average of 12lbs more than the exercise-only group. Dieters in the “cereal group” also bumped up their intake of healthy nutrients and cut down on saturated fat.
