According to a review published in the May 2008 edition of Nutrition Reviews suggest that recent claims of low fat diary products and calcium helping people to lose weight has nothing much to do with reality.
Between the rests of trials on dairy products versus weight loss, two showed an increase in body weight, one showed a slower rate of weight gain while the other five showed weight loss.
The authors said the association between use of dairy products and weight loss in some "observational" studies may be due well to other factors such as increased exercise, reduced intake of high caloric foods and increased use of dietary fiber, fruit, and vegetables among other things.
"Our findings demonstrate that increasing dairy product intake does not consistently result in weight or fat loss and may actually have the opposite effect," Lanou and Barnard concluded in their report.

It's all about moderation in food that we are eating.
Dairy products, even those that are 2%, low fat, no fat - will make you gain weight - jj summed it up - moderation.
I have also been a firm believer that diary is not the best for us if we want optimal health.
I am actually offering a 5 part course for free at the moment on my website. One of those parts speaks about dairy and weight loss.
Good to see other people discussing this topic too.

I dont find these claims very convincing. Calories can be lowered in many food groups that can result in weight loss.
